1959, is a Japanese photographer based in Tokyo. She studied at Waseda University and began working in photography in the mid-1980s, participating in workshops led by Moriyama Daidō.

In 1990 she founded the gallery 03FOTOS, which she directed until 2001, and in 1996 co-founded the photography magazine Main. Her early work developed through black-and-white series such as NU-E, later published as a photobook in 1997.

From the early 2000s onward, she became known for color photographs made from the water, often taken while floating offshore and facing back toward land. This approach structures series such as Half Awake and Half Asleep in the Water(2007) and subsequent works, in which the horizon is split between water and sky or land, producing a distinctive perspective on landscape. Her work has been exhibited internationally and is held in museum collections including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo.

Her publications include NU-E (1997), Funiculi Funicula (2004), Half Awake and Half Asleep in the Water (2007), Ever After (2013), Gips (2018), and Dawn in Spring (2023).
