Born in 1965 in Aden, is an English photographer. After growing up in various locations due to his father’s work as a nuclear scientist, he moved in 1985 to Nottingham, an industrial city in the East Midlands of England, where he began systematically photographing his immediate surroundings, friends, neighbors, and the urban landscape.

His first photobook, Living Room, was published by Aperture in 1991. Based on work begun in 1986, it documents the everyday lives of two working-class families in Nottingham, produced through long-term immersion and close participation. The project was later continued in the books Weddings, Parties, and Anything, forming an extended body of work on domestic life and social environment.

Between 1993 and 2000, he produced a photographic report on the town of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, later published as Nick Waplington, Truth or Consequences. From 2008 to 2010 and again in 2012 and 2013, he photographed Jewish settlements in the West Bank, resulting in the series Settlement, which became part of the exhibition project This Place.

He received the European Kodak Award in 1990 and the ICP Young Photographer Award in 1993, and participated in the 49th Venice Biennale in 2001.
