1963, is an American photographer whose work centers on memory, place, and everyday life, often photographed within his immediate surroundings and family environment. He was born in Columbus, Ohio, and has lived in Providence, Rhode Island, and the Catskill Mountains in New York.

Before focusing on personal work he had a career as a commercial photographer, traveling across the United States photographing anonymous hotel rooms. His later practice shifted toward more intimate subjects, frequently depicting landscapes close to home, his family, and quiet moments of daily life.

Photobooks are central to his practice. He has published numerous titles, including Pretty Girls Wander (2011), which documents his daughter’s transition from adolescence to adulthood, and Ciprian Honey Cathedral (2020), a sequence of symbolic and figurative photographs made around a new home. Many of his artist books are self-published in small handmade editions through Dumbsaint Editions.

He is also co-founder of the collaborative publishing project Orchard Journal. His work is held in collections including the Bibliothèque nationale de France, the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and Light Work in Syracuse, New York. In 2016 he received the Aaron Siskind Foundation Fellowship and in 2020 a Guggenheim Fellowship.
