1953, is a Norwegian photographer and visual artist. Born in Oslo, he studied at Trent Polytechnic in Nottingham, England, in 1976–77. Since the late 1970s, he has developed a photographic practice centered on long-term projects, working primarily with analogue black-and-white photography. Between 1986 and 1996 he divided his time between Oslo and New York, before settling permanently in Oslo.

His work is characterized by a sustained engagement with landscape, everyday life, memory, and the passage of time. Major projects include Summer Light, Asylum, The Shipyard at Solheimsviken, Racing, Wilse, Photographs from Telemark, and Veien til Dakotah. Working with a precise and contemplative approach, he often returns to places and subjects over extended periods, exploring the relationship between human presence, history, and the landscape.

Photobooks form a central part of his practice. His publications include Asylum (1987), The Shipyard at Solheimsviken(1990), Layers of Light (1995), Summer Light (2001), Racing (2012), Wilse (2015), Still Time, and Photographs from Telemark (2021). His work has been exhibited internationally and is held in museum collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art in New York, Museum Folkwang in Essen, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, Moderna Museet in Stockholm, and several Norwegian institutions.
