Born February 15, 1956, in Borås, Sweden; died April 8, 2015, was a Swedish photographer whose work is regarded as a key contribution to contemporary documentary and art photography.

Tunbjörk began his career working for the newspaper Stockholms-Tidningen. He later published in magazines such as Metallarbetaren, Månadsjournalen, and Upp & Ner. He achieved international recognition with the photobook Landet utom sig (Country Beside Itself), which critically examined Swedish society and identity. This book was followed by Office and Home, forming a trilogy that documented the commercialization and psychological landscape of the Swedish welfare state through images of workplaces, domestic interiors, and everyday environments.

Tunbjörk was known for his distinctive use of color, flash, and deadpan humor, combining social observation with a sharp sense of irony and emotional tension. His photographs move between documentary practice and artistic interpretation, often revealing the unease and absurdity embedded in ordinary life. His work appeared frequently in The New York Timesand other international publications, and he exhibited widely at major institutions, including the International Center of Photography in New York and Moderna Museet in Stockholm.

In 2005, Tunbjörk won first prize at the World Press Photo Awards. In his later years, his work became increasingly personal, culminating in projects such as Vinter, which reflected on isolation, landscape, and inner states. He remains an influential figure in photography, particularly for his ability to combine social critique with visual wit and psychological depth.
