"Donde el viento da la vuelta" brings together more than fifteen years of photographic work in Isla Mayor (Seville). Pedro J. Saavedra creates an essay that combines observation, reflection, and the will to highlight the value of the place.

The author’s relationship with Isla Mayor began casually during a photographic outing. That first incursion gave way to a sustained interest in its landscapes, its architecture, and its inhabitants. Over time, the territory became for him a space of exploration, almost a form of meditation in which to listen to stories, understand the rhythm of life, and experience those who dwell there.

Isla Mayor has long been a reference point for photographers, filmmakers, and writers. Works such as Por el río abajo by Alfonso Grosso and Armando L. Salinas, the photographic work of Atín Aya, or the film La isla mínima by Alberto Rodríguez reveal its presence in the cultural imagination. Frequently, however, an idealized vision of the territory has prevailed. Where the Wind Turns distances itself from that gaze and proposes a more direct approach, attentive to people, understanding geography as a lived space charged with meaning.

The writings of humanist geographer Yi-Fu Tuan, philosopher Josep Maria Esquirol, and anthropologist Assumpta Sabuco broaden the reflection on the relationship between territory and human experience. The result is a photobook that recovers memory, nuances imaginaries, and offers a personal reading of Isla Mayor.
