Gregor Radonjič - Misplacements, Self published, 2023, Maribor

Hardcover, thread sewn, Bodonian binding with exposed spine, 1st edition of 50 hand numbered and signed copies, design by Gregor Radonjič.

"The traces of human activity are evidence of our presence, and human interaction with the natural landscape is diverse. Sometimes it is more, and sometimes it is less visible. This series questions how we interact with the natural environment by placing isolated man-made objects of different forms and functions into a particular landscape so that its transformation is neither very obvious nor visually too destructive. Yet, the placements of the isolated structures and objects, in many cases ending up abandoned or functionless, interrupt the natural 'purity' of the landscape and form a rather odd visual and physical relationship with the surrounding environment. In most cases, the purpose and the meaning of these objects are not even clear to the viewers of photographs or accidental passers-by. The functions of most of the objects photographed in this series have already been lost; for some of them, it seems this will happen in the near future. By losing their physical context or purpose, former placements become misplacements. As a result, in such human-provoked situations, natural and artificial elements and materials intertwine and form a new topographical identity of the landscape.
This series visually explores to what extent the presence of such alienated objects 'civilizes' the landscape considering the fact that a certain degree of tension always occurs when the natural and the artificial co-exist. The concept of the series is thus focused on the phenomenon of the man's placement of the artificial in nature and how it changes the identity of the landscape and natural environment."
