Lars Tunbjörk's comment on the decline of the Swedish welfare state, with focus on the leisure culture and the country's rapid commercialisation.
"In his books, Lars Tunbjörk reveals an environment of consumer comfort but spiritual emptiness, a bland urban wasteland where one shopping mall looks exactly like another, and where the trees that the developers didn't really want to plant haven't really bothered to grow. Tunbiörk's themes in Landet Utom Sig (Country Beside Itself), which makes it an exemplary New European photobook, are those of many Western European photographers - Martin Parr, Paul Graham, Nicolas Faure, Hans Aarsmann - consumerism, leisure, the post-industrial vacuity and the smoothing down of the bumps of history.
