„Das Buch von 1997 handelte von Schades Reisen, zu denen er nach dem Ende der DDR aufbrechen konnte. Schon damals kombinierte er seine Fotos mit kurzen Texten und Tagebuchnotizen. Zudem arbeitete er an einem zweiten Buch, in dem das Verhältnis von Text und Bild umgekehrt war – wenige Fotos, lange autobiografische Texte. Schade hatte eine Doppelbegabung und schrieb so gut wie der fotografierte.
