Ron Jude - Executive Model, Libraryman, 2012, Stockholm
When I first saw it in a bookshop in Vienna, I had no card/money with me, but did not reserve it as I thought I would be the only one in town interested in. On return, of course, it was gone. I forgot about the book for a while but those strange shots from uncommon angles and positions with only a fraction of the skull/head/hair shown kept returning, particularly the one photo with the "orange" hair, with just a little bit of a perfect blue sky and the rest more or less totally black left a deep impression on me. I still don't know what attracts me here, but the composition is so brilliant, the absence of faces makes it so scary and impersonal. And I keep myself asking, how did Ron shoot it, did he approach them silently? And one question will remain of course - who is the other one in Vienna enjoying his/her copy?
From 1992 to 1995 Ron Jude photographed American businessmen in the financial districts of Atlanta, Chicago, New York and San Francisco. Revisiting this amazingly powerful, yet delicate series with a renewed sense of urgency and relevance, we are thrilled to publish this work for the first time in book form. (from the publisher)
