Akina Books
Akina was an independent publishing house of photobooks, known for the experimental singularity of its content, visual narratives, handmade and hybrid binding techniques, paper combinations, and printing processes.
Founded in 2012, every publication was crafted a regola d’arte, with great care, love, and attention to detail. Akina worked with both emerging and established photographers from all over the world, developing an editorial line that constantly challenged readers to think critically and reconsider the book form.
Situated between novels and movies, all books were created collaboratively with the photographers and artisans involved, offering unique reading experiences through books conceived as objects to crease, love, and collect. Akina was run by Valentina Abenavoli and Alex Bocchetto.
Akina also ran a teaching and lecture program dedicated to all aspects of the photobook, as well as a cozy factory devoted to bookmaking and design.
