Born in 1971 in Haslach an der Mühl, Upper Austria, is an Austrian photographer known for his precise, understated approach to documentary and portrait photography.

After growing up in Helfenberg, Upper Austria, Bernhard Fuchs studied from 1993 to 1997 at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, including from 1994 under Bernd Becher. He subsequently completed a postgraduate master student program at the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig between 1997 and 1999, studying with Timm Rautert. His work is characterized by a sober, attentive gaze and a sustained interest in everyday environments and people.

Fuchs lives and works in Düsseldorf. In 2017, he was awarded the Austrian Art Prize for Artistic Photography.
