Ali Taptik - Nothing Surprising, Marraine Ginette éditions, 2015, Toulouse
Softcover, french fold, booklet with text, design by Okay Karadayilar
Ali Taptik’s book “Nothing Surprising” is the result of a long-term project that was born after the financial crisis of 2008. This publication focuses on concepts of crisis and resistance in urban situations, combining images of streets and strangers with interiors and friends, along with public state of being and intimate haunts and desires.
“Nothing Surprising” is the follow-up to his first book “Kaza ve Kader” (“Accident and Fate”) published in 2009. In the interim following “Kaza ve Kader” published in 2009, he published “Metropol Yeşili” (“Metropolis Green”) in 2014, “There are no failed experiments” in 2012 and “İstanbul’u Resmetmek - Türkiye’nin Görsellik Tarihine Giriş” (“Depicting Istanbul - An Introduction to the Visual History of Turkey”), which was a collaboration with Prof. Dr. Uğur Tanyeli and was listed in one of the most prestigious photography almanacs, “Photobook: A History Volume III” by Martin Parr and Gerry Badger.
Hidden in its French folds, “Nothing Surprising” will also provide flashbacks to childhood memories through artifacts and newspaper clippings and will include images that were previously exhibited in New York Photography Festival, Espace Culturel Louis Vuitton in Paris and Castle Ujazdrowski in Warsaw.
