"In 1957, the photo book "Cologne Intime" was published. Commissioned by the city, it was meant to capture images of the growing prosperity and the typical everyday life of Cologne.
Not all of the images achieved the intended promotional effect for the economic miracle. The new highways looked bleak, the shopping streets uninviting, and bars, working-class pubs, and restaurants with prostitutes attested to an escapist unease. Moreover, Chargesheimer captured the 77th Catholic Day from an elevated perspective in such a way that the crowd evoked the mass rallies of the Nazis." (translation from the German Text by Monopol)
