MACK
MACK is an independent publisher of award-winning books on contemporary art, critical theory, film, and architecture. The press collaborates with pioneering creative minds and institutions across the globe and is known for the rigour and care that goes into every stage of the book-making process.
Founded in 2010 by Michael Mack, the publishing house was established to engage in critical dialogues around visual culture through beautifully designed editions. In its early years, MACK focused predominantly on photography, quickly becoming a home for work by leading practitioners including Thomas Demand, Roe Ethridge, Jim Goldberg, Guido Guidi, Luigi Ghirri, Paul Graham, Alessandra Sanguinetti, Collier Schorr, Stephen Shore, Rosalind Solomon, Alec Soth, and Larry Sultan, as well as debut publications that launched the careers of artists such as Sofia Borges, Gregory Halpern, Joanna Piotrowska, and RaMell Ross.
Today, MACK has grown into an experimental space for authors across disciplines, where a handbook on post-carbon architecture can sit alongside a collection of essays on modernist painting, a facsimile of Francesca Woodman’s artist’s books, a conversation between a psychoanalyst and a violinmaker, and career-defining monographs by Deana Lawson, Tacita Dean, and Sofia Coppola.
Its cultural programme reflects the breadth of its publishing, with talks, lectures, and workshops held in venues and institutions worldwide, including bookshops in Berlin and Los Angeles. The online platform MACK LIVE presents exclusive studio tours, talks, panel discussions, and videos exploring the design and materiality of the books in detail.
