Nazraeli
Nazraeli Press is a publisher specializing in books of photography. It was founded in 1989 in Munich, Germany, by Chris Pichler and has been based in the United States since 1996.
Nazraeli publishes approximately thirty new titles each year and has released more than four hundred books featuring the work of photographers from the United States, South America, Europe, and Asia. The company is run by founder Chris Pichler together with director Alison Crosby. In addition to traditional monographs, Nazraeli produces a number of distinct book series, each with its own format and editorial concept.
The press has been based in several locations since its founding, including Germany (1989–1996), Tucson, Arizona, Portland, Oregon, and, since 2014–2015, Paso Robles, California. It also maintains facilities in Manchester, England, to support sales and distribution in Europe.
Publications and Series
Nazraeli publishes traditional photography monographs in editions of up to 3,000 copies. In addition, it produces several limited-edition series:
One Picture Book is a small-format, hardcover series consisting of sixteen pages and a signed and numbered tipped-in print. Each title is published in an edition of 500 copies, typically released in groups of four titles about twice a year. The series includes both established and emerging photographers and was first launched in 2000.
NZ Library is a large-format series measuring 12 × 15 inches and presented in a slipcase. It is produced as sets of six new titles, once or twice a year, in editions of 350 copies.
Six by Six is an oversized, slipcased series that includes a loose signed print. Each set contains six titles and is published in editions of 100 copies, with six sets released every six months.
Between 2007 and 2009, in collaboration with the organization Joy of Giving Something (JGS), Nazraeli distributed seven issues of the journal Witness. Each issue was guest-edited by a different photographer, who selected the content and designed much of the publication.
