Steel has been produced on the Brightside Lane site, home of Sheffield Forgemasters, since 1863 when Vickers founded the River Don Works. Today the Lower Don Valley is a changed landscape, but the historic site of world-renowned Sheffield Forgemasters still stands proud on the banks of the river.
Photographer Andrew G. Smith was invited on site by Dr Graham Honeyman, the Chief Executive of Forgemasters, to explore and photograph the 4 steel manufacturing processes.
