Dagmar Kolatschny - Sunny, Peperoni Books, 2014, Berlin

Softcover, edition of 300 copies, signed. Design by Dagmar Kolatschny and Hannes Wanderer, Text Alfred Döblin, Berlin Alexanderplatz.

Why is this book named ›Sunny‹?
The facades are dirty gray, windows are dust blind and splintered, the staircase needs a new paint, rooms are empty, chairs have toppled or stand unused in the corner and outdoors the weeds grow. Berlin.
But Dagmar Kolatschny does not present a broken city. She enters the spaces and interspaces, the chipped remaining gaps, the cracked edges, collects impressions, makes astonishing discoveries everywhere - and takes pictures.
Some red petals make the battered staircase a mysterious place, a climbing plant transforms the dusty window in a mosaic, a light surge an empty hall into a stage and the discarded chair into a throne. Dagmar Kolatschny makes images that you can not invent or plan. You can only expect, sense, experience them. The moments come unexpectedly, are transient, not permanent. Therefore, they are so precious.
And without the light of the sun they would not exist - the moments and the colors, our vision and the images. (Hannes Wanderer)
