De Ruimte van Henry Cannon (The Space of Henry Cannon) is from the Dutch printing firm of Drukkerij Rosbeek published around 1980 (though undated I have seen listings that specify a range from ca. 1979 to 1983), it is the seventeenth in a series of promotional pieces showing off their printing talents. It is, as one can see, photographs made by Joost Guntenaar of a collection of crushed 99 soda cans collected by Henry Cannon. An alternate title could have been 98 Cokes and a Pepsi if one wished to bring an echo of Ruscha into the conversation. Surely the tongue-in-cheek "cola wars" punch-line fits but maybe an allusion to Warhol is better; iconic brand of Americana met with shiny metallic violence. Sculptures too flat for John Chamberlain but perfect for a printed page, recto and verso = one can. Don't bother with the unintelligible text by K. Schippers who seems in the midst of a pseudointellectual sugar high. (Jeffrey Ladd)
