Mike Chick - Oder-Neisse, Self published, 2016, Berlin
Hardcover with text booklet, edition of 500 copies (special edition - 1st 50 copies numbered 1-50 with two 20x25cm prints), design by Mike Chick and Martin Dennis, text by Mike Chick
"An endless stream, a great silence, an impenetrable forest.”
Oder-Neisse is book about a border, and beyond that, borders in general. It is the name given to the Polish-German border formed at the end of the Second World War, comprised of the Oder river in the north and the Neisse in the south. It is inspired in part by the writing of Joseph Conrad, who was born an ethnic Pole in what is now Ukraine, and which was then under Russian rule. Photographed in that region between 2013 and 2016 and exploring themes of land, identity and occupation.
