Charles Johnstone - Libby, 70South, 2013, New York

Hardcover, cloth bound and signed. Compiled and edited by Corey Presha, design by James Hughes.

„Libby brings together a selection of polaroids from the archive of Charles Johnstone. Never intended to be made into a book, the project was conceived in late 2011 by 70South founder Corey Presha. Following Charles' five self published artists books (Thirtyfour Basketball Courts, A Few Empty Pools, Some New York Handball Courts, Brooklyn Fences, and New York Store Front Churches), Presha was hoping to steer away from the Ruscha influenced typologies and show a different side of the artist. While looking through the collection of polaroids a project began to emmerge almost immediately focusing on Johnstone's longtime friend, confidant, and muse Elizabeth Schoettle. Part documentation, part performance, the book shows the push and pull of two artists working together over the course of 12 years. As Charles writes in his essay, "these photographs are as much about how I saw Libby as how Libby saw herself."
