Bill Dane (b. 1938), recipient of two NEAs and two Guggenheim fellowships, first became known for his postcards which led to a 1973 solo show at MoMA. After two decades of moderate success through solo shows, representation by Fraenkel Gallery and appearance in publications, his work gradually disappeared from institutions and the photo-world moved on to other work. In 2015 Dan Skjæveland (b. 1987) flew from Stavanger, Norway to San Francisco to learn more about Bill and his work. The 24 hours of recorded conversations would spark the first publication of Bill's work in over 25 years. Containing 222 photographs mixed with 100 texts, this self-published, no-frills monograph shows us the world as seen and experienced through Bill Dane's being.
