Hans Aarsman - Hollandse taferelen, Fragment Uitgeverij, 1989, Amsterdam
Hardcover, cloth bound with dust jacket, edition of 2000 copies. Text and images by Hans Aarsman.
From March 1988 to February 1989 the photographer-author travelled through the Netherlands with a camper and a large camera. He photographed landscapes, villages, sometimes special events such as the launching of a ship, a multiple car crash, or a folkloristic procession. He aimed at capturing everyday occurrences and show what is special in that (in terms of beauty, expectation, peace, surprise). The book contains 36 colour and 3 black-and-white full-page photos. The location of each photo is mentioned. During the trip the photographer wrote a column in newspaper Trouw and a monthly article in Foto magazine. Some of these are also included in the book (25 pp. small text). Topics discussed in the columns and articles are: the point of photography, the fate of single persons, notes about looking and (rare) encounters. (catawiki)
