"Kjell-Åke had studied photography in Stockholm and had read an American magazine about the work of photographer Eugene Smith. Inspired to travel to Wales, he intended on staying a week, which turned into two months. [He] took a series of photographs of local miners living in and around the Bargoed area, originally published in his book Gruvarbetare I Wales (Miners of Wales). They included photos of the miners of Bargoed Colliery, including some images taken underground, and pictures in their homes and during nights out in pubs and clubs. Kjell-Åke said he saw a pride in the men’s work and skill." (walesonline)
