Mark Steinmetz - Berlin Pictures, Kominek, 2020, Berlin

Hardcover with dust jacket, signed.

"Mark Steinmetz's Berlin pictures show us his perspective on our existence and how it is played out against the backdrop of this city. In his unmistakable photographic approach, he focuses on people and their world, capturing scenes that tell of life itself. He finds his subjects on the streets and in parks and urban transitional spaces. We see people who are withdrawn, introspective, deeply immersed in thought, older men and younger women, people waiting, pairs of lovers, young people, and children at play. They all use public space, seemingly naturally and in their own ways, for transition, as a setting for activity, or somewhere to pause or linger.

Some of these photographs astonish us with the coincidences they depict, some engage us with their seriousness, while others move us with the tender treatment of their motifs. Together they form another chapter in Steinmetz's life work, which makes us aware of the uniqueness and dignity of each individual person, the value of life and the fragility of existence." (Thomas Weski in the afterword)
